Sometimes...

Sometimes in life, it takes a 2x4 between the eyes, a death, or a verse to strike the mortality in your bones...

Although I wasn't hit by a 2x4, I did get a massive splinter under my nail the other day which hurt A LOT. Also, we had a death in the family...my godson's grandfather passed last week. Lastly, I read this verse today from Paul:

"I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love."
Ephesians 4:1-2

All this said, I can only reflect on the passing of time on earth. Sometimes things really hurt us-physically, emotionally, spiritually. But it is in these sufferings that we can appreciate the LIFE that is within us through Christ Jesus. His life was MOST glorified because of His death. He suffered so much on earth, ultimately to meet the greatest love of the Father in heaven. He asks us to live a life worthy of to be name after Him...that is...LOVE.

I know I'm not always great at this, but my prayer is to continue to live as He as asked me as best as I can. And when I fail, I will ask Him to redeem my failings and sufferings for His glory, to point to Christ Jesus alone.

Finally, I reflect on the words of St. Teresa of Avila...in hopes of living into the calling of the Lord:

"Christ has no body now on earth but yours, no hands but yours, no feet but yours. Yours are the eyes through which He is to go about doing good; yours are the hands with which He is to bless people now."

I pray I can pick up that responsibility with joy and gladness.
